Carrie Fisher once told us:
“Everybody thinks they have good taste, and a sense of humor”
…and she’s right!
When listing their property, every home-owner has the same thought. I loved it here! Buyers will love it here too!
In some cases, that might be true, but not every home owner and potential buyer have the same taste – and that’s okay! But, you wouldn’t want your preferred wall color and favorite ACDC poster to deter a buyer, would you? Me neither.
Well, here are some simple tips to ensure your home is LOVED BY ALL!
-
TURN ON THE LIGHTS
- Use the maximum wattage your fixtures will allow! A warm, glowing and bright are all things you want to convey to buyers instead of dim, dark and gloomy. Use your side tables! Don’t just depend on overhead lighting, utilize table lamps in darker corners to make a room look bigger!
-
NO MORE CLUTTER
- This is probably the most obvious, but most overlooked tip. Too much furniture (even small furniture), can make any home look unnecessarily small.
-
KEEP IT NEUTRAL
- Fresh, neutral colors are appealing to everyone. Very few people will look at a bright green wall and think “my furniture would look great here!”. But don’t be disappointed, neutral doesn’t have to be boring! There’s the normal beige and warm tans, but honeys and soft blues and grays are excellent options!

KITCHEN REHAB
- The first place buyers look for updates are… you guessed it… the Kitchen! But a lot of sellers are on a budget – so if you can’t afford new cabinetry and counter-tops, there are things you can do to impress even the pickiest buyer.
- Replace old hardware with something trendy (HobbyLobby is great for this!)
- Get sneaky – you can inexpensively replace just the front panel of cabinetry.
- Under cabinet lighting – surprisingly inexpensive, and goes a LONG way with buyers!

DID THE HOUSE JUST GET BIGGER?
- To make any room look more spacious, paint it the same color of the adjacent room. A seamless look will make any room duo seem bigger – this goes for drapery and doors as well!

TREAT YOUR WINDOWS TO A MAKEOVER
- Your windows are a statement piece that stays with your home, even after you move out. New and updated window treatments are an inexpensive way to “WOW” a buyer.
